Artificial Intelligence: A New Frontier for Early Childhood Education

On August 16, 2024, the National College for Education (NCE), in collaboration with Digital Power Media Co., Ltd., organized a scientific seminar titled "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Early Childhood Education." The event attracted over 850 delegates (350 in-person and 500 online), aiming to explore and discuss the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing the quality of early childhood education.

The seminar was honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Minh, Director of the Preschool Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training; Dr. Cao Tuan Anh, Senior Specialist of the Science, Technology, and Environment Department; representatives from Departments of Education and Training, Education and Training Offices, principals, teachers from preschools nationwide; and domestic and international experts and scientists.


Representing the sponsoring partner were Ms. Le Thi Phuong Thuy, General Director of Digital Power Media Co., Ltd.; Mr. Tran Anh Tu, Development Director of Phu Thai Hodings Group, and other members.


Representing the National College for Education were Assoc. Continuing the opening remarks of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Minh, Director of the Preschool Education Department, Dr. Trinh Thi Xim, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of the NCE, stated: "In recent years, artificial intelligence technology has developed rapidly and has been applied in many aspects of life. However, for current preschool managers and teachers, artificial intelligence is a new field; they still face many difficulties in both directing and applying it to work in preschools. Dr. Trinh Thi Xim hopes that through the seminar "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Early Childhood Education," she will receive many comments, exchanges, and sharing of experiences from delegates, scientists, managers, and colleagues domestically and internationally."

The seminar featured four presentations by speakers and scientists from universities, research institutes, and leading technology companies, sharing the latest research and practical applications of AI in early childhood education. Specific examples included using AI to personalize learning for each child, create interactive educational games, support teachers in assessing children's abilities, and even create virtual assistants to interact with children.

"A Comprehensive Overview of AI Applications in Early Childhood Education: A Framework for Early Childhood Teachers" by Dr. Kim Manh Tuan, from the University of Education, Vietnam National University, emphasized the immense potential of AI in early childhood education and shared global experiences in AI integration. He also introduced a framework for AI competencies for early childhood teachers and showcased various AI applications in creating images, videos, and digital learning materials.

Dr. Truong Dinh Bao and Professor Meong Hi Son (US-Korea experts) presented their study "Integrating AI and Robotics in Early Childhood Education: Case Studies from Korea and Potential Applications for Vietnam."


Dr. Truong Dinh Bao and Professor Meong Hi Son (US-Korea experts) presented a paper titled "Integrating AI and Robotics in Early Childhood Education: Case Studies from Korea and Potential Applications for Vietnam." Their research analyzed market trends and the potential for AI and robotics in Vietnam, highlighting their successful application in child health care in Korea. The authors expressed hope for similar successful implementations in Vietnam.

M.A. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Vietnam's E-Learning Ambassador, Vice Head of the Information Technology and Vocational Education Department of NCE presented her study about "Utilizing Artificial Intelligence to Develop Digital Content Creation Capabilities for Early Childhood Education."


M.A. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Vietnam's E-Learning Ambassador, Vice Head of the Information Technology and Vocational Education Department of NCE presented a paper on "Utilizing Artificial Intelligence to Develop Digital Content Creation Capabilities for Early Childhood Education." She demonstrated specific AI applications for administrators and teachers, including the creation of chatbots for administrative tasks. She also showcased the use of AI in developing the story "The Little Turtle Finds a Home" using lesson plans, images, videos, and lectures.


One of the highlights of the conference was the discussion on the benefits and challenges of AI implementation in early childhood education. Experts emphasized AI's potential in fostering creativity, problem-solving, and collaborative skills in children. However, concerns were raised about over-reliance on technology, reduced human interaction, and data privacy issues.

In conclusion, the conference participants agreed that AI will play a pivotal role in transforming early childhood education. To fully harness the potential of this technology, significant investments in research, training, and the development of intelligent education systems are required.


On the same afternoon, the conference delegates listened to presentations and observed AI-integrated teaching demonstrations conducted by kindergarten teachers at four preschools: Hoa Thuy Tien Practice Kindergarten, Hoa Sen Practice Kindergarten, Hoa Hong Experimental Kindergarten, and Mai Dich Kindergarten.
